Its origin is believed to be in Great Britain in 1901, and it was later registered in Havana, about two decades later, under the ownership of J.F. Rocha y Cia, José F. Rocha’s firm. At present, it is produced in Dominican Republic – where the Cifuentes family which had bought the brand after the death of José F. Rocha in 1954 - for General Cigar Company, and by the state owned Cuban cigar company, Habanos SA. Both brands stand out in their taste and strength, even though both uses different filler leaf mixes, binders, and wrappers.
